In Retrospect..
» Posted on January 2, 2010
it was a big, big year. I mean, we crammed a lot of stuff into twelve tiny months and looking back on it now, I feel half ready to fall over and half ready to run into 2010 with bigger, loftier goals. First order of business? Find some new lucky shoes. Yes friends, I am sad to announce that the beloved Mootsies Tootsies have been put on permanent disability and will no longer be able to attend weddings and/or engagement sessions. This decision did not come lightly, and after shooting my very first wedding in two years without wearing the Mootsies Tooties I can’t tell if it is a relief to not have to explain the state of my shoes to curious onlookers (“you know, that tap tap tapping sound is actually coming from a nail that is somehow wedged inside my heal that I have tried unsuccessfully to remove, but these are my lucky shoes and I have to wear them”) or sad that I have to come up with new fuel for conversation while I am waiting for the bridesmaids to come out of the bathroom. (“you know, I used to have these shoes that made these tapping sounds because of a wedged nail that try as I might…”) Either way, it is time to move on, potentially to a pair of shoes that I can wear without feeling like my shin bones are made out of brittle old porcelain that chips away every time I take a step by the time the First Dance comes along. (My lucky shoes were not terribly comfortable..) Can anyone suggest a pair of shoes that can possibly take on the responsibility of making sure it doesn’t rain during a shoot even though it poured before and after? Scare off snakes? Sooth screaming four year olds that would rather wade in the nearby fountain then stand with the bridal party for one last picture? I also would like them to make me look and feel awesome. Is that too much to ask for in a shoe? I don’t know, but I think that 2010 is my year to find out.
May this new decade inspire us to dream, to strive, to accomplish, and to feel contentment in the process.

Large pictures, yay!!!!! I love the last one of the heals on your shoes, it definitely tells a story. Awesome shot!! Hope you can find some comfy replacement shoes soon
I’m sorry! There is nothing better then a good pair of shoes. Comfy, cute dress shoes that also bring you luck? Good luck with that one my friend.
By the way-only YOU could pull of a post (complete with pictures) about shoes. And that is why we love you:)
awwww…no more mootsie tootsies??? Yikes!!! I don’t think you need good luck anymore…your talent has surpassed anything that luck has done for you!! But for cute shoes…I really love Steve Madden’s or the cheaper (and often not so high-heeled version) Madden Girl.
I do feel that the shoes have become a part of the family. It’s a bit uncomfortable at the dinner table trying to find good conversation since Carrie insists that the shoes eat with us. They’ve carried Carrie through so many of her great experiences over the last year. They shall be missed but we welcome the prospects of a new addition.
Carrie had the most amazing year and I’m so very proud of her and the success that she has had. It’s been quite the experience watching as her photography career went from the days of film to the digital era. She is truly a professional photographer in ever sense of the description. Love you! Here’s to 2010!
Goodbye Mootsies Tootsies! You are a fun blogger Carrie.
OMG! I think i just peed in my pants a little! that was the funniest blog post– with the close second being “my hair caught on fire” seriously my stomach hurts! I’m not sure shoes are ever comfortable at first–its more about the time you spend with them– the journey they take you on.
we will all miss the mootsie tootsie– they were a good pair of shoes….
Try clarks– they are not always cute–nor do they make a tap tap tapping sound as you walk, but they are always comfortable!
You’re the best Carrie– the best!!!
